Root of the problem |
|
24/06/2010Is usually where you’d look to find a solution especially to the problem of irrigating tree saplings in dry areas. Often it needs a bit of creativity to source it out. One man’s ‘root of the problem’ approach in places like Rajkot and then Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, has ensured sapling survival due to a unique method involving directing water straight to the roots. This innovation ensures growth and avoids water wastage in drought prone areas. His other innovations include a blower that disperses seeds easing the process, a one of a kind ‘check dam’ for recharging groundwater that had also helped raise awareness and so it’s no wonder then that Mr.Premjibhai Patel of Rajkot, Gujarat has been awarded the recent National Water Award.
